I present to you my very first piece of art done at Wildlight. Years before Highguard. The vision was so grand. Too grand for our small team and limited timeframe. Before pivoting a few times, we wanted to create a massive survival FPS. Something like Rust + Apex + Game of Thrones. Early iterations were insanely fun and the designers came up with gameplay mechanics that were devastating to shelve. That's the reality of game development though. Gotta ship something, shippable. This piece represented a ton of ideas we were anxious to explore. Mostly what a fantasy game looked like for us. What would a huge open world with crazy scale look like. What about player built bases? Different mobility options... etc, etc, etc. The early bluesky concept days were soooooo fun and I'll cherish them forever, as those types of opportunities are quite rare, especially with a team that good. And especially as mainly a hard surface artist, it feels so fresh to get out of my comfort zone and explore it all. Tower in the back was obviously referenced and inspired by the legendary Joon Ahn piece titlted "Monument". Wanted to capture the same epic scale and vibe.
